Veteran actor and filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar is looking back with fond memories as ‘Sholay’, one of India’s biggest cinematic milestones, completes 50 years since its release.

The Ramesh Sippy classic, which came out on August 15, 1975, remains an evergreen favorite, remembered for its gripping story, legendary characters, powerful dialogues, and unforgettable music.

Sachin Pilgaonkar, who played the role of Ahmed in the film, marked the golden anniversary by sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram. He uploaded a collection of throwback photos with the film’s cast and crew, capturing some rare and cherished moments from the sets.

Among them was a striking glimpse of his sequence with Amjad Khan, who immortalized the role of Gabbar Singh.

Sachin Pilgaonkar also posted a video showing a special souvenir, a commemorative ‘Sholay’ coin, that he received on the occasion of the film turning 50. Expressing his emotions, the veteran actor wrote that he feels “very lucky” to have been part of such a monumental film.

In his caption, he reflected, “50 years of Sholay. Sholay is an emotion. A celebration. I’ll always be grateful to Ramesh Sippy Ji, who I considered one of my Gurus, for making me a part of this magnum opus and for giving me the opportunity to learn so much even behind the scenes.”

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, ‘Sholay’ boasted a stellar cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, and Amjad Khan. Its story, set in the fictional village of Ramgarh, follows retired police officer Thakur Baldev Singh, who enlists two friends, Jai and Veeru, to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh.

Over the decades, ‘Sholay’ has become a cultural reference point. Its lines like “Kitne aadmi the?” and “Basanti, in kutton ke saamne mat nachna” remain part of everyday conversations. The film’s songs, including “Yeh Dosti” and “Mehbooba Mehbooba,” continue to be celebrated across generations.
